Hamtaro (とっとこ登場!ハム太郎) is the 1st episode of the anime series, Hamtaro; and the 1st episode of Season One.
An 11-year-old girl named Laura Haruna, along with her parents, her dog Brandy and hamster Hamtaro, moves into their new house. Hamtaro gets out of his cage and goes outside, where he meets a hamster named Oxnard. They fall underground, meeting up with Boss who shows them his house. He says he needs help telling a girl how he feels. Meanwhile, Laura meets Kana Iwata and buys a journal that she updates every night.
Hamtaro, the curious pet hamster of 5th grader Laura Haruna, sets out to meet the neighbors after they move to a new town. While Laura enjoys a snack with her parents, Hamtaro sneaks out of his cage and down the drainpipe. Once outside, he meets his hamster neighbor Oxnard, who is looking for his missing sunflower seed. Hamtaro helps him find it and they declare each other friends afterwards.
Both Hamtaro and Oxnard fall underground, only to meet a hamster named Boss and his house. After showing off his hideout, he says he is having girl troubles and needs help. He takes them to meet the enchanting hamster, Bijou. Boss gets tongue-tied while trying to sing for her until the quick-thinking Hamtaro helps him out by breaking into a much less ear-shattering song. Bijou winks at Hamtaro after the performance, signalling her crush on him.
That night, Laura shares her day with Hamtaro. She tells him about her new friend Kana Iwata whom she met while buying hamster stationary at the store. Then Laura writes in her diary, never imagining that her cuddly Hamtaro has some new friends of his own.
