Princess Cye-Ra (シェーラ姫) is the princess of the Hamja Kingdom who appears in the second Hamtaro movie, Hamtaro: The Captive Princess. She is the daughter of King Hamja and is Prince Hamha's wife.
Character description[]
Princess Cye-Ra is a ruler of the Hamja Kingdom, alongside her father, King Hamja. Cye-Ra fell in love with (the eventual) Prince Hamha, who was destined to become her future prince.
In ancient times, Prince Hamja, a royal ancestor to Cye-Ra, trapped an evil cat named Sabaku-Nya inside of a vase. Centuries later, Cye-Ra found this vase; Sabaku-Nya talked to Cye-Ra through the vase, and convinced her to release him. Once Sabaku-Nya was free, he instantly returned to his corrupt ways; he trapped Cye-Ra in a tower, with the intent of marrying her and overtaking the Hamja Kingdom. During this period, Prince Hamha's whereabouts were unknown.
One night, Hamtaro had a psychic dream about Princess Cye-Ra (who he had previously never met). Hamtaro and the Ham-Hams dig their way to the Hamja Kingdom; upon arriving, they witness Sabaku-Nya and his giant ram, MeeMee, trampling the town. Hamtaro follows Sabaku-Nya into his tower, meeting the captive Cye-Ra. Hamtaro and Cye-Ra befriend each other, and Hamtaro plans to rescue her from Sabaku-Nya. Eventually, Cye-Ra begins to have romantic feelings for Hamtaro, and announces that she is going to marry him.
At one point while battling Sabaku-Nya, Hamtaro becomes imprisoned; being locked in a cell with MeeMee. Hamtaro realizes that MeeMee is actually Prince Hamha, who was transformed into a ram. Ultimately, Hamtaro escapes prison and traps Sabaku-Nya back into the vase, never to be released again. In saving the kingdom, the arrangements for Hamtaro and Cye-Ra's wedding begin; but as they are getting ready, Hamtaro remembers MeeMee. He rushes back to the prison cell, finding that MeeMee has turned back into Prince Hamha.
Upon seeing Prince Hamha, Cye-Ra becomes very emotional; she calls her wedding off with Hamtaro, and chooses to marry Hamha instead. While Cye-Ra did feel love for Hamtaro, the marriage was moreso to save the kingdom from Sabaku-Nya's forced marriage; while Hamha remained her true love.
Trivia[]
- In a 2002 commercial, what appears to be early (?) artwork for Hamtaro: The Captive Princess is shown. In this artwork, Cye-Ra's silhouette on the moon has a noticeably rat-like appearance, which is not seen in the final film poster; potentially suggesting that Cye-Ra was originally intended be to some sort of other rodent rather than a hamster.[1]
